X marks the crossovers, says Opel. In the slew of information on its seven new vehicles coming for 2017, Opel also stated its “X” moniker will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
“We wanted the name to convey a more adventurous, sportier mindset,” Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann said when referring to the badging.
The 2017 Opel Mokka X ushered in the branding, and it will be followed by the Opel Meriva’s replacement, the Opel Crossland X.
The Opel chief also stated he sees crossovers as the “clear trend” in the market, and the brand will begin its offensive in the segment starting with two new CUVs next year. The Crossland X and an unnamed C-segment crossover will launch as part of the seven new products.
