GMC U.S. Sales Fall 6.2 Percent To 42,668 Units In October 2016

Sales of GM’s premium utility vehicle brand, GMC, fell 6.2 percent in the United States and 15.37 percent in Canada in October 2016.

October 2016 GMC Sales – United States

In the United States, cumulative GMC sales decreased 6.2 percent to 42,668 units in October. In the first ten months of 2016, cumulative GMC sales decreased 4.74 percent to 434,100 units.

October 2016 GMC retail sales decreased 6.6 percent, or 2,623 units, year-over-year to 37,039 units, representing 86.8 percent of total GMC sales. That compares to 39,662 retail sales in October 2015, which represented 87.2 percent of total GMC sales.

GMC retail sales performance highlights for October 2016 include:

  • GMC’s ATPs growing three times faster than industry pace
  • Sierra had its highest ATP ever at $46,876
  • Canyon had its best October ever
  • Acadia had its best October ever
  • Yukon had its best October since 2007 and 14th month of year-over-year growth
  • Yukon XL had its best October since 2007
  • More than 25 percent Denali penetration for the brand

October 2016 GMC fleet sales decreased 3.2 percent, or 187 units, year-over-year to 5,629 units, representing 13.2 percent of total GMC sales for the month. That compares to 5,816 fleet sales in October 2015, which represented 12.8 percent of total GMC sales.

It’s a good thing that ATP’s are high for the brand in a tepid economy , but what should be worrisome is their market share isn’t where it should be . the Sierra is down , Acadia sales should start gaining momentum now that the pipeline is full and Terrain’s decrease is normal for the end of an old model .
    Customers feel upbeat about their incomes and are buying high end models and are willing to pay higher prices ( ex . Denali ) , but what happens when the economy slows or contracts and folks stop buying high end vehicles , TAP will slow and your market share is already down and will get worse , that leaves the door open for other brands to take over the market share .

  2. I think what we are seeing here and same with Chevy is the Colorado/ Canyon higher end models pulling sales from Silverado/Sierra lower end models. I would think it should have been expected and GM knew full well what they were doing. A fairly loaded up 40k Canyon can’t be negotiated down nearly as much as a decontented 40k Sierra at this time.
