General Motors To Require Fast Charging Stations At All Chevrolet Bolt EV Dealers

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV will not arrive with standard fast charging capability, but it will likely be an option many customers will check for ease of use. Inside EVs reports GM will also require any dealer selling the 2017 Bolt EV to build at least one CCS fast charging station on site.

In the video provided above, GM says there is no requirement for these to be public stations, but also comments saying some dealers will install more than one and will be available for public use. The real question then becomes if these will be free stations or if they will require payment.

Thr 2017 Bolt EV has already begun production and should be arriving at select west coast dealerships in the coming weeks.

  1. I have said before that this is a great opportunity for Chevy dealers to turn their showrooms into destination locations with simple coffee and snack shops like a Starbucks. If they do it right, people will make the stop for snacking and drinking needs at the dealership instead of a gas station. Even non-GM owners will stop at the dealers opening up the door to new customers.

  2. Getting close to trading off my 2015 Volt that I special ordered the 2nd day Chevrolet was accepting orders. I made a special trip on American Airlines from Texas just to see the Bolt concept car at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. I liked what I saw and I’d very much entertain trading my 2015 Volt in for a new Bolt, BUT only a handful of Texas Chevrolet dealerships will be stocking them. My local dealership has no plans to stock Bolts, much less have a “Bolt Technician” on the payroll.

It’s too bad that some Chevy dealerships won’t be jumping on this “bandwagon.”

  3. I live in Ozark Al. I just bought a 2017 Bolt and I hope we will have a Chevy Bolt dealer in the area soon.
