The GM Authority Take
We posit that the October sales spike is the result of pent-up demand following the seatbelt-related recall and stop-sale, which prevented dealers from delivering the SS Sedan to customers. The stop sale was issued in July and was lifted in the latter part of October, thereby creating pent-up demand for the months of July, August, September, and October.
In addition, dealers are still honoring the 20 percent off MSRP discount initially offered in in July on many Chevrolet models, as the stop-sale went into effect shortly after, preventing many from taking advantage of the offer.

To bad that’s not enough to save this awesome car.
I’m not surprised at all, people will buy them if they are on a dealer lot. I saw my first one at my dealer. First one they had there in two years. Just imagine if they advertised the car. GM really never wanted to sell this car they were just meeting obligations and agreements they had with GM Holden
But that’s not exactly reality. The truth is that the car was never meant to be a high-volume seller to begin with due to the $40K+ sticker, thereby pricing it well out of the sweet spot of mainstream sedans (which have an average ATP of $32-33k).
Now, let’s imagine that GM were to decontent the SS/Commodore and bring over less expensive variants with V-6 engines and less standard equipment. First, doing so would defeat the purpose of this car, since the “mainstream” sedan duty is accomplished quite well by the Malibu in Chevy’s lineup, and second — and perhaps more importantly — the GM-Holden plant in Australia would not be able to meet demand for greater demand. That’s especially true given that the plant is about to shut down forever.
So, the reality is that there is only so much real demand for a mainstream, V8-powered sedan in the marketplace as the SS sells. I wouldn’t be surprised to see sales figures for the V8-powered Dodge Charger to be similar, with most of the Charger’s sales volume sitting with lightly-contented V6 models.
The jump in sales can be attributed to: 1. As stated the seatbelt recall now has a fix and the cars can be delivered. 2. The 20% off was and still is available on many of these cars.
20% was enough for me to finally get one of these amazing cars. After nearly 2 yrs. Of looking for the right used one, was able to get a new one for just over $38K.
Yup, that 20% discount is indeed quite attractive. Congrats on yours! What color?
Heron White. I’ve had 2 cases where others thought I was the cops, but the car is basically “invisible” in the daily commute.
Anyone thinking they might want one of these, don’t delay, get one now! Soon they will be gone.
This is a very popular car in Australia and the build is outstanding for a car in this price range. It would be the best car that Holden has built yet unfortunately it will be its last. It is said that the politicians killed it off but so did GM not wanting to up the capacity of the plant. I was wondering if that has something to do with not being made in USA. Anyway we are hoping that it will be replaced by the SS Camaro in RHD which would be even more popular.
One last observation. A RHD Camaro will never be sold in the USA. Once the Chevy SS plant closes it could be used to supply RHD countries with Camaros. There is no question as to the build quality that would come out of that plant.
Hopefully, Holden will come up with some nice works on the last model of this super sport sedan. I would like to see a final edition or other special editions on the last year model.
