Chevrolet U.S. Sales Down A Slight 0.8 Percent To 181,964 Units In October 2016

Sales of GM’s mainstream vehicle brand, Chevrolet, decreased less than 1 percent in the United States and 7.5 percent in Canada in October 2016.

October 2016 Chevrolet Sales – United States

In the United States, cumulative Chevrolet sales decreased 0.8 percent to 181,964 units in October. In the first ten months of 2016, cumulative Chevy sales have decreased 3.7 percent to 1,713,876 units.

October 2016 Chevrolet retail sales increased 5.8 percent, or 7,729 units, year-over-year to 141,641 units, representing 77.8 percent of total Chevrolet sales. That compares to 133,912 retail sales in October 2015, which represented 73 percent of total Chevrolet sales. GM North America’s continued focus on profitable retail sales enabled Chevrolet to gain 1.4 percentage points of U.S. retail market share in October to 12.3 percent.

In fact, Chevrolet has gained U.S. retail market share in 9 out of 10 months this year, and remains the industry’s fastest-growing full-line brand. October 2016 accounted for the brand’s best October retail sales performance since 2004 and best year-to-date retail sales performance since 2006.

Chevrolet retail sales performance highlights for October 2016 include:

  • Chevrolet car sales continue to grow faster than the passenger car industry
  • Malibu, Camaro, Corvette, Spark and Volt were up 39 percent, 14 percent, 8 percent, 5 percent and 6 percent,
  • respectively
  • Malibu had its best October since 1980
  • Camaro had its best October since 2009
  • Colorado, Suburban, Tahoe and Trax were up 42 percent, 35 percent, 49 percent and 37 percent, respectively
  • Tahoe and Suburban had their best October since 2007
  • Colorado had its best October since 2004

October 2016 Chevrolet fleet sales decreased 18.6 percent, or 9,229 units, year-over-year to 40,323 units, representing 22.2 percent of total Chevrolet sales for the month. That compares to 49,552 fleet sales in October 2015, which represented 27 percent of total Chevrolet sales.
