Cadillac Escala Concept Brings Its Stunning Looks To The City Of Angels

Cadillac is keeping tight-lipped on what its flagship vehicle will eventually be, but the Cadillac Escala concept is the brand’s latest foray into attempting something of the like.
The Escala concept was first shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance before it made its way to the Cadillac House in New York City, but Los Angeles is the first time the vehicle has hit the auto show circuit. Needless to say, we got up close and personal with the Escala to take in its presence.
In person, yes, the Escala is certainly stunning, especially from the rear quarter view. Up front, Cadillac’s first application of horizontal lighting looks decent but trades the bold characters currently found on production cars for subdued elegance. Overall, we’re perfectly comfortable saying it’s a looker.

Man! That’s such a beauty! May the updated or next-gen CT6 resemble as much of this beauty as possible!!!
Want to revive the Cadillac brand?? BUILD IT ALREADY!!! So tired of seeing GM tease all brands with concepts people want, yet get a watered down version no one wants. Buick does it and Caddy does it too. Want to compete? Build the concepts people want. I don’t give a $hite to hear how marketing and blah, blah, blah can’t make it happen. Build it or die, plain and simple. So tired of Europe, Japan, and S. Korea out performing GM while China becomes a future threat, great…
This is Cadillac flagship CT8, JDN has already told you that, it will be build, a version this Five door, Five People liftback.
Reminds me the Elmiraj with 4 doors
I can’t wait to see what Cadillac can do with this design language on the next generation of ATS and crossovers.
the current Caddys look dull compared to the concepts….Im getting tired of the same watered down design theme.
I sure hope the next generation CT6 and future CT8 gets the stunning concept designs.
Well the three concepts were planned long ago and carried out over the years as the direction of Cadillac.
The first was the most non production, the second came a little more home to a production car but still not one. The third is about 80% there.
The third one is the only one JDN has any input in and even then it was not 100%.
They are changing the cars now as we speak that is why there is a delay in new models for nearly two years. The two new cars the CT6 and XT5 were done before JDN came so he could change very little on them. The new cars will better reflect the new path and this show car hints more at what they are working to.
We have several new SUV models coming ans a couple new cars with a revamp of the ATS and CTS with their new names.
JDN Has only been at Cadillac for 2 years and 2.5 months. It takes 2 years for a refresh and a whole new model takes about 5 years. You have to account for the time line to get when we will see new models. I know they have a rush on them but even then it only can speed things up so much. You do them too fast then things get screwed up and then you make mistakes you can not afford when you are trying to convince you have changed.
If you put it on the market, I will buy it.
Love love love it.. except the hatch back.
I love the hatchback feature of the Escala concept. There’s no reason that large and/or expensive cars can’t have a liftgate. Liftgates are very practical, take nothing away from the design or utility. The only problem is that the set-in-their-ways US auto writers hate hatchbacks because they think hatchback = cheap. Time to ignore the US auto writers and be bold, be Cadillac.
If Cadillac would build a car like this I would bet anything, with the right marketing this alone would help bring more sales into the lower end cars. The more I see this car the more in love it. I would of loved seeing pics inside but i am sure they were not letting anyone in it
Cadillac’s Escala is another reason why Cadillac needs to seriously consider firing Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen because why spend the time and money to develop a concept car you have absolutely no desire to build despite all feedback from those who seen the Escala have said it would be a car they would consider buying.
Flagship= CT8=escala concept, type five door, five passengers lift back. People are buying more crossovers/suv’s then sedans. Scott3 said is about 80% there, that tells me these other 20% is working on there full hybrid plug in electric system to put on there, using these new EVT.
There’s always talk about how to elevate the Cadillac brand and to me this is it. Yes, I STILL want the Elmiraj AND this concept. Why? Well, do a search for the Bentley/Rolls models and you will see where a hybrid Elmiraj/Escala fits in perfectly. 4 doors for some and 2 doors for others. Brand elevated, at a more palatable price. It can be done, at a better price point, giving birth to aesthetically pleasing down tier model/s. Seriously GM, I wish I had control to produce what people want rather than you ignoring what people rave about.
Want to make a statement? Make It a full electric.
Why? So it will remind people of an enlarged Tesla Model S even more than it already does?
The Tesla Model S absolutely dominates the large luxury sedan market. And that includes models from Mercedes, BMW, Audi… Why do you think the Germans are in panic mode to introduce electric versions of their flagships?
That’s what the market wants. Give it to them. Developing a high end IC powertrain for this car is a waste of ressources. Make it better than the Model S and watch the perception of Cadillac rise in a way that marketing dollars could never achieve.
BTW. This car doesn’t look anything like a Model S. I just don’t see it.
the CT8 should be a CUV/SUV instead of a car and be all electric.
JDN said there will be a flagship, but it will not be 4 door, sedan. CT8 5 door,5passgers lift-back on omega chassis, EVT Full plug in hybrid system. New crossovers/Suvs will have EVT Full plug in hybrid system as well.
