The GM Authority Take

Though very competent and competitive, the current Buick Regal is starting to show its age — as 2017 marks the current model’s seventh year on the market. As such, we believe that the decrease in October Regal deliveries appears to be the result of consumers taking notice of the current model’s maturity, while also continuing to increasingly favor SUVs and crossovers. In addition, GM’s strategy to reduce rental car fleet sales could also be a factor in the cumulative decline in Regal sales during October.

To assuage an issues with the age of the current model, Buick is widely expected to introduce a completely-redesigned Regal for the 2018 model year. The all-new, premium midsize sedan is expected to share its E2 platform, design, and features with the 2018 Opel Insignia, 2018 Vauxhall Insignia, and 2018 Holden Commodore. 4. Regal is a good car (last year, I drove myself 2015 Regal Turbo FWD with LTG for a week or so), but it is, in essence, 2008 Opel Insignia, and the automotive world moves a bit forward technologically every year, so, it’s already time to replace it with an all-new vehicle (supposed to be all-new 2018 Regal).
