General Motors has filed an application to register Buick DDB and DDB as trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), GM Authority has discovered.

The automaker’s November 22nd, 2016 applications specify that the marks will be used in conjunction with “Motor land vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles”.

Trademark Filing Date Serial Number
DDB November 22, 2016 87245181
Buick DDB November 22, 2016 87245181

The GM Authority Take

This trademark filing certainly has our attention, mostly due to its unique name and the Goods and Services category that is typically associated with trademarking vehicle names. So, the best we can do right now is to tell you that DDB appears to be an acronym for Buick founder David Dunbar Buick and that it appears to be reserved for a future Buick vehicle

  1. Hmm A little Aston Martin influence here? Could we be getting a coupe that is more production like than the last one.

You do realize Aston Martin DB the DB is for David Brown the founder.

Who found Buick? David Dunbar Buick. Or as we like to call him DDB.

Come on Alex I tough of all people you would have caught this one. LOL!

  2. I’m guessing it’s a Buick badged Opel Adam. Makes sense since it was named after the founder of Opel.

    1. Jim,

Unfortunately, Buick has said it doesn’t see the Adam as a fit in its North American portfolio any longer. This name remains quite a mystery.

      Cheers,

  3. I hope it’s worthy of their performance pedigree. Buicks have been extremely lackluster without pizazz as of late. It’s not fair that chevy gets all the interesting models. I would like to see a Buick riviera or a Gs Stage 1 inspired car that kicks the chevy zl1 and corvette ass.

I know it might never happen but the underdog should be allowed to win sometimes. Who knows it happened in 65, 70, and 87. Why not 2020 ?

  4. To name a model or a special edition after the company’s founder would mean whatever vehicle getting this badge has to be sweet and momentous.. because you’re not going to stick DDB on a hunk of junk.
