Autonomous Chevrolet Bolt EV Spotted Putzing Around San Francisco

Remember when you were younger and you wanted a super cool nickname? Well, the autonomous Chevrolet Bolt EV didn’t get one, either.

Nicknamed, “Platypus”, a 2017 Bolt EV was spied by Inside EVs as it perused around San Francisco near the Uber and Square headquarters. Of course, this is the work of newly-acquired Cruise Automation, in conjunction with General Motors. Cruise made it known it would continue to send autonomous Bolt EVs out on their own as it continues to develop game-changing technology with GM.

While Cruise works on the self-driving stuff, GM will continue to work on bringing the 2017 Bolt EV to customers in select markets by the end of this year. A nationwide rollout is expected in early 2017.

  1. I saw this car today at 24th and Potrero (Mission District) but also saw it a couple of months ago in the same location, and later near 7th and Brannan. Looked like the photo in the article–same color–but I noted a couple of extra sensors ahead of the front wheels, both sides. Driver had hands on wheel at all times–I checked!
