8-Second Dodge Challenger Flaunts Sacrilegious Turbo LSX Swap: Video

We’ve seen just about everything with an LS-swap: a turbo LS Pontiac Fiero, twin-turbo LS Ferrari Dino 308 GT4, an LSX Willys Jeep, shoot, even a Ford Mustang isn’t immune to an LS engine transplant. And in this video taken during Drag Week 2016 in Hebron, Ohio, we see a Dodge Challenger powered by a turbocharged LSX. Mopar die-hards beware.
When we first saw the notchback Mustang with a turbocharged LS under the hood not too long ago, we were taken aback. It wasn’t that we didn’t like it… it’s just… it was like Michael Jordan playing in Larry Bird’s sneakers. We had that same feeling when coming across this video featuring the LS-swapped Challenger.
Purists may be disgusted by such atrocities, but we tend to enjoy seeing the creations some builders come up with – that and the fact that this Challenger can barrel down the quarter-mile in less than 9 seconds. The quickest time shown in the video is 8.19 seconds at 162.72 mph. All that speed is courtesy of a 427-cubic-inch LSX V8 boosted by a 106mm turbocharger and matted to a 3-speed transmission.
Naturally we’re also drawn to the blue Chevy C2 Corvette dragster in the video, which ran a 6.85 at 199.52 mph, and then unfortunately slammed into the wall after crossing the finish line.

BUT, you notice they wouldn’t try that in the SS/A class of ’68 hemi cuda’s and darts ? Wonder why that is ? We all know why, don’t we.? Or let’s go further with this, how bout Top Fuel cars and dragsters? Engine of choice ? Never happen. GM have tried and failed miserably to make their motors run Top Fuel. Never gonna happen, Never !
I remember an old Chrysler ad showing top fuel class dragsters with HEMI motors flying GM and Ford colors. It said…”We want to thank our competitors for using our engines in their cars” ALL of the modern American muscle cars are incredible technological innovations. Its exciting, don’t you think? Thanks
