2017 GMC Acadia, Cadillac XT5 Recalled Over Front Brake Issue

General Motors is recalling certain units of the 2017 GMC Acadia and 2017 Cadillac XT5 over an issue with the front brakes.

The defect: the front brake calipers may have a torn or misaligned caliper piston seal which may allow brake fluid to leak.

The hazards: if there is a brake fluid leak, braking performance may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2017 Cadillac XT5 manufactured April 16, 2016 to May 9, 2016
  • 2017 GMC Acadia manufactured April 19, 2016 to April 22, 2016

Number of vehicles affected: 1,844 vehicles (United States figure).

The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front brake calipers, replacing the brake caliper assemblies, as necessary, free of charge.

Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this GMC Acadia recall and Cadillac XT5 recall should visit recalls.gm.com. There, owners will be able to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs. 1. Can someone enlighten me as to how GM (and other companies) know how many cars/date ranges to recall for issues? I know they have production data for dates/VINS but how do they known there aren’t other cars outside this range with the issue? Not saying there are more, I’ve always been curious to know how manufactures know how to pinpoint it so exactly.

    1. If the engineers have identified the problem down to a single part, and that part has a assembly number that appeared in GM’s X, Y, and Z models spanning the year ## to ##, than it might serve as one way of narrowing down the number of units that may be afflicted.

Good question though. I can only guess, so don’t take it as fact.

  3. I took a survey after purchasing an Acadia. I had very negative responses towards the finance department but the salesperson was excellent. Apparently he got written up. How can I contact someone. This isn’t fair.
