2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 To Be Revealed At The LA Auto Show?

This week, we will be live from sunny Los Angeles, California for the 2016 LA Auto Show. Among various vehicle debuts, there’s one that truck enthusiasts have been anticipating: the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. And, guess what? We think it’s finally going to arrive.

Chevrolet has two scheduled debuts for the 2016 LA Auto Show and we’re nearly certain one of them will be the off-road ready Colorado ZR2, during a reveal event that’s dedicated to a truck. Let’s look at a basic timeline.

Chevrolet revealed the Colorado ZR2 concept two years ago at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, which looked pretty close to a production-ready truck. Following the reveal, numerous General Motors executives expressed their support for the project, with one even telling us insiders were “coo-coo for Cocopuffs” over the Colorado ZR2 reaching production.

Moving right along, the past year has been utterly littered with sightings of alleged Colorado ZR2 test mules. We know its an off-road variant because we’ve seen the upgraded shocks and suspension up close and the ride height and choice of tire is a dead giveaway to what is going on here.

With insider support and spy photos of off-road-ready test mules, it’s safe to say the Chevy Colorado ZR2 will arrive in a couple days’ time in production form, as Los Angeles is one of the hottest mid-size truck markets in the country. However, there are some unknowns. What choice of powertrains will be available? Just how much engineering has gone into its off-road prowess? And, maybe most importantly, how much will it cost?

Those are questions we don’t have answers to just yet. But, we will bring answers as soon as we see what Chevrolet has concocted.

So then would it be the Traverse and the midsize crossover reveal after the ZR2 reveal? I mean the Equinox is already being revealed so it just doesn’t make sense if they put Equinox back on again

Lots of differences between the looks of the spy photos and the concept vehicle. I sure hope a production version will lean toward the latter.

ZR2 reveal – could that be why the Build and Price for the 2017 GMC Canyon website is live, and the Colorado is not yet available? Maybe waiting for a ZR2 reveal?

The ZR2 will be in LA as well as the Nox.

The ZR2 will lack some of the Concept things because it is a Concept and keeping pricing down is going to be difficult enough doing all the right parts on the suspension.

Based on the Z71 price look for it to start in the high 40’s and top out in the $50K range with the Diesel.

I am glad they are building it but I may never own one as I will not go over $50K for a mid size truck.

Now that the ZR2 has been revealed, maybe now we can get some reviews on the 2017s.

OK. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. As I suspected it’s a bit watered down compared to the Prototype. The “corporate” excuse for the smaller tires seemed a bit lame but typical. The bottom line for me, however, is that I think they have done a pretty good job and I guess I will consider myself a buyer. A Raptor simply won’t fit in my garage either. ….. so they didn’t use 33 inch tires because 31s would do. Fine. But the 33’s look way better. Anybody have any thoughts on to how replacing OEMs with 33’s would affect handling?
