The preparation for the 2017 racing season starts now. Corvette Racing leaves much to be desired from 2016, but plenty to love, too.
Corvette Racing, managed by Pratt & Miller, took home GTLM Championship titles and secured its 100th program win during the 2016 season.
However, Ford came back with a vengeance with its latest GT racer, sweeping Corvette Racing off its feet on more than a few occasions. That includes the team’s ho-hum outing at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. That’s no matter, though. There’s plenty to look forward to in 2017.
Have a look at the video detailing 2016’s accomplishments right up above. We can’t wait for what 2017 has to bring.

corvette racing better have their mid engine race corvettes ready to race in 2017 like ford did in 2016 or they may get their ass handed to them. when the track is wet the front engine corvettes are at a big disadvantage. they have to add more wing downforce and this kills their top speed on the straights
Well the Mid Engine CR8 will not arrive any sooner than 2018.
Till then the BOP will be used to keep Corvette completive for now. The Series as a whole would like more Mid Engine cars due to the rules and as long as GM is working this way they will keep them in the hunt.
Last year they were paid back for the last two dominate years they had and were screwed at the end.
Keep in mind this is not pure racing. In fact little racing today is pure racing anymore. Too much money at stake to not make it so everyone remains competitive as a series can not afford to lose too many MFG.
do you think that ford who believes they have a better car will keep being handicapped and not complain ??? they were handed the le mans win and they expected to win it all. I think ford leaves if it does not win the championship this year. I wonder how many ford GT have been built and sold to the public ???
Hell they all complain unless they hold the advantage.
Ford is not leaving after the heavy development cost of this car. At least not for a while.
The series to be honest did pretty well in balance this year. Le Mans was not their race so the series is not to blame there.
I expect they will give a good balance again next year but in the end the balance often goes a little to one team. Chevy got cheated out two years and was rewarded this year. Ford may be made to wait a little longer as pay back is due to Ferrari yet and Porsche is pretty mad.
Hard to day how it will work out but I expect Ford is not going to be given it in gift wrapping, Acura also is entering next year too and I expect they will not be gifted yet either.
We just have to see how the politics work out. Dodge got the nod two years ago for threatening to leave. Then they did. It is all a game of politics and to keep sponsors, fans and MFG all happy their favorite brand is able to win any race and to keep competition close.
The series and even the MFG know they need all the makes in and competitive. IMSA lost all their MFG in the late 80’s and the series died the first time. I was there and saw it first hand.
You can not just let them all run wild either or you end up with F1 cost and everyone leaves but one and then they leave as there is no point of racing team cars against each other.
Today racing is expensive and so technical it is hard to manage. BOP is not great but then again the alternative was the Daytona Prototypes that nearly all looked alike.
While many get mad at the sanctioning body they have a tough job and often when they get it right everyone is pissed off.
No racing is pure anymore and much has not been for years. Rules control much. Cheating still is common in many series. I was talking to some people I know in Trans Am and they showed me ways several of the teams were fudging the rules and if they did not do it they were not competitive.
I believe if Chevy shows they will remain committed if they are treated well they will remain in the series. But they will always dangle that we could leave over them to influence some things. The Corvettes and their thundering V8 engines are a draw and they will always be wanted.
I do expect the Le Mans body will treat them much better this year on the BOP. I also expect they will sand bag more. There you do not show what you have till race day and then you let it rip. Since they do not run the entire series in Europe they can get away with it for a year but the next year they could pay the price as I expect Ford may this year. There is no 50Th Anniversary this year.
I will be pulling for the P&M guys and Corvette next year as I have for years. I would like the CR7 to go out on top as there will be some learning with the new car but it should be short with Pratt and Miller on the job.
I like what you have to say!
