General Motors is recalling certain units of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu over an issue with the side-impact airbag.
The defect:Â the fabric of the side-impact air bag cushion may tear during deployment.
The hazards:Â if the air bag tears during deployment, the air bag may not perform as designed, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Affected vehicles:Â 2016 Chevrolet Malibu manufactured November 18, 2015, to June 7, 2016.
Number of vehicles affected:Â 18 vehicles (United States figure).
The fix:Â GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the air bag module, free of charge. The recall began October 27th, 2016.
Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this Chevy Malibu recall should visit recalls.gm.com. There, owners will be able to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs. If the vehicle is part of the recall, then owners should take it to a Chevrolet dealer.
