1990 Geo Tracker Places Second In Budget Off-Road Beaters

Quick, when you think used off-road vehicle, you probably thought of an old Wrangler, Cherokee or something of the like. Probably not the Geo Tracker, huh?

Well, guess what? It’s pretty darn capable, despite only having 80 hp to get the job done. Car and Driver took to the not-so-beaten path with a few budget off-roaders to see which one would prevail after a few repairs… just to have the vehicles break again.

The 1990 Geo Tracker did a lot of things right, thanks in part to its relatively small footprint and excellent approach and departure angle. It also turned out to be extremely maneuverable.

“What the Miata is to the sports car world, the Tracker is to the off-road world,” wrote C/D. That’s some impressive praise, but it only managed a second place finish. What trumped the Tracker? Read on here to find out.
