SEMA 2016: Chevrolet Silverado High Desert Channels An Avalanche

Chevrolet has taken to show off what it calls “the ultimate expression” in Silverado with the Silverado High Desert SEMA show truck.
If you were unaware, Chevrolet blatantly channeled the loved, yet lost, Chevrolet Avalanche to create a production solution for buyers. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado High Desert features an in-bed storage system, which is lockable and water-resistant. Chevrolet says the sail panels are directly inspired by the Avalanche.
The storage system is mounted over the roll-formed, high-strength steel bed to add dual side storage bins and a three-piece hard tonneau cover. Inside, a cargo divider can be raised to secure smaller items or lowered to access the full length of the bed floor.
But, for SEMA, Chevrolet dressed up the Silverado High Desert with a handful of concept accessory treatments including:
- 22-inch wheels with an anodized bronze finish.
- Cocoa leather seat inserts, brown accent stitching and embroidered headrests.
- Chevrolet grille insert.
- Custom slate blue exterior color.
“This Silverado High Desert is dressed to impress, inspired by the successful legacy of premium, special-edition models Chevrolet has introduced recently,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing. “As our customers continue to integrate their trucks in more personal ways, we’ll continue to offer more unique choices that speak to their lifestyles and interests.”
The Silverado High Desert show truck is joined by 20 other Chevrolet show cars at the 2016 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Cool, but it still leaves out the best things about an Avalanche. The ability to extend the bed (removable bed and cab bulkhead) and the suburban’s coil rear suspension for that smooth ride.
It is supposed to have the Denali’s magnetic ride.
Would like to found out if this option could fit Sierra?
Stop trying to cut corners and jut rebuild the Avalanche. Upgrade the interior and options insure the cabin is silent widen the stance and fatten the exhaust
I’m with ya, but people voted with their wallets and picked the short bed crew cab in mass over the Avy. I guess all we can do is shop for a low mileage GMT900 Avy. I know I currently am.
i have a regency conversion avy for sale, black and chrome,07,50,000 miles
I wish they would remake the Avalanche, I really miss mine, but at 12 years and 220k miles, I couldn’t keep putting money into it (needed new engine and AC due to age). But with such a good track record they weren’t selling new ones because everyone that wanted one was happy with the longevity we were getting with what we had. Simple supply and demand, there was not enough demand for new ones since the older ones were still running.
Well that is so true …. we need GM to get there hand out of there pockets and bring the Avalanche back in full force… Just might have to take a trip drop in on ” Bit## – en Rides”
We need a new and improved Avalanche … Time to do this GM.
THANKS
A new lean Avalanche somewhere between the original Raptor and the new Rebel TRX, and Warrior concept has some good ideas too, this would be perfect.
I own a 2112 avalanche and love it, I like most people would buy another one.
The new one should have:
a outstanding interior that sets it apart from evryone else that is both lux. and function.
Full frame like before
electronic sway-bar disengage system like dodge.
serious shocks and suspension geometry for off road capabilities.
6 point tie down cleat system for box.
box storage should be as good as ‘ram box’.
the 3 section tonneau is great don’t change it
A real roof rack.
serious shocks and suspension geometry for off road capabilities.
different wheel well to allow for larger tires.
Most importantly a conscientious follow with aftermarket bumpers bars winches and other off raod goodies we like to use.
The first thing I would say is BRING BACK THE AVALANCHE!!!!!! The High Dessert Package is all well and good, but don’t try to get it in a Z71 package because Chevy for some reason won’t let you, even though it is basically an accessory that would fit in any short bed Silverado. I have been trying to get Chevy to do that since April with no luck.
New Year and still we do not have a new Avalanche on the road. It has been proven when you build a good product and the industry can not make money it gets fazed out . The truth is that the first edition of the Avalanche is still on the highway rolling up the mileage. l agree with all of the addition and upgrade that could be made and hope our voices are heard. The proud owner of his second Avalanche as I look forward to the next generation of a great vehicle.
Thanks again
