The historic Factory One, which is the original Durant-Dort Carriage Co., officially has a man in charge. M Live reports General Motors has selected Kevin Kirbitz, a long-time GM employee from the Flint, Michigan area, as the individual to serve as operations manager.
Factory One is being converted to house a GM research and development facility for the automaker. Kettering University will also utilize the space to house its archives. The renovations will keep historical portions of the factory, but update the building with modern technology and workspaces
Kirbitz has been involved with the project at Factory One since GM expressed interest in the site in 2012, and has won many awards for his research and literary contributions on the history of automakers in the area.
