General Motors Files Trademark Application For ‘Colorado Bison’

General Motors has filed an application to register Colorado Bison as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), GM Authority has discovered.

The automaker’s October 10th, 2016 application is assigned serial number 87198001 and specifies that the mark will be used to name goods and services associated with “Motor land vehicles, namely trucks.”

The GM Authority Take

It would appear that yet another variant of the Chevy Colorado pickup truck is in the works, with Bison potentially referring to the “humpback shaggy-haired wild ox native to North America and Europe”, as defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary.

While we continue patiently anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Colorado ZR2, sales of the Chevrolet Colorado lineup have increased 26.59 percent to 80,047 units in the first nine months of 2016.

  1. I hate the name. I hope it is not referring to a ZR2 variant of some kind.
The ‘Bison’ name is not strong enough for a kick-ass off road vehicle.

    1. MMMMM. Now I’m hungry for a Bison Burger! Dumb name for a truck trim/package/special edition.

  3. It will be some odd trim special edition with some western theme. Simulated Buffalo seat covers and or some nonsense that will get people to buy it, Like them or not the special editions generate sales and profits.

Could also be some kind of work truck package as there Chevy has used Bison on a Larger commercial semi truck in the past.

  4. It’s a throwback name. A series of medium/heavy duty trucks had that name in the late 70’s and early 80’s

  7. I don’t think this will have anything to do with Colorado. We’re probably looking at commercial trucks here

  8. Bison is an old Chevy name in their heavy duty truck line. They made them for 4 years from 77-80. They also made an prototype semi of the same name.

  9. GM is coming out with a Medium Duty Line of trucks that have not been announced yet. In the range I believe of the 4500, 5500 series to compete with FORD and DODGE, sooo the BISON name may be going to these vehicles. It is about time GM stepped up their truck availability.
