Buick Reveals New GL8 MPV For China

File this to vehicles you will never see sold in the United States. In China, however, the Buick GL8 is a big deal, and the brand has pulled the wraps off of the latest iteration of the multi-purpose vehicle.

The new Buick GL8 was revealed with sparse details surrounding powertrains and interior appointments, but the brand did state enhancements are found in nearly every area of the new GL8. That includes powertrains, technology and riding comfort.

Most importantly for the new GL8 is its adoption of Buick’s latest design, something lacking in the previous GL8. The MPV has gone from frumpy to sleek thanks to a dark waterfall grille, angled headlamps and more fluid lines.

The new Buick GL8 has optimized its interior space over the outgoing GL8 with shorter front and rear overhangs, meaning cabbies will have greater room for passengers and luggage.

The new GL8 will launch in China later this year, following delivery of 76,607 GL8 MPVs last year alone.

    1. Lex,

It traces its roots back to the GM U platform. Think Pontiac Trans Sport, Aztek, Chevrolet Uplander etc. The platform has since been updated since 2010, but still, it’s basically an old GM minivan!

      Cheers,

  3. Disappointing Quest clone. Pacifica is far more cool and graceful.

  4. This is actually not bad looking! But I agree with Greg: you’ll never see me riding in one of these! Good riddance to GM minivans!

  7. GM wants too much over design of products and thats not good. so many different bodylines . but not bad. GM could be a very simple way to your products visually much more quality when they are not over-designed products.

  8. Just sad that these MPV have better captain chairs that you can actually recline back than the lambda triplets

  9. This is a botched design. C- ish.

What’s right here are those beautiful lines on the sides — just below the windows. They should have continued/flowed right into the lights. In an visually aerodynamic way. The nonsense above the backseat door destroys the design.

  10. I will get few “likes” but Chrysler really cracked the code on the 21st Century minivan by mixing sedan-like design with crossover cues with the recent Pacifica.
Thus Buick looks like a toaster!
