A refresh of the Ford Mustang could not come at a better time. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro outsold Ford’s pony car for the first time in 23 months; sports car sales are plateauing overall, and the Ford Mustang has admittedly been out-performed by the Camaro each and every time.
Ford Authority snapped photos of the upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang, expected to bring in refreshed styling and possibly updated performance credentials from the 5.0-liter V8 engine.
Since the sixth-generation Camaro was revealed a year after the Ford Mustang, we’d expect a refresh of the Camaro isn’t far behind, likely to show face for the 2019 model year. In the meantime, Chevrolet seems to be quite busy plotting hard incentives for the Camaro to start moving more of them from dealership lots.

I can’t wait to see what changes await the 2018 Mustang! I expect the implementation of the new Ford/GM-developed 10-speed, more power from the 5.0, and perhaps their version of the magnetorheological dampers used in the stellar GT350R to be offered as an option! I wish they’d offer their performance package for the V-6 model! If Chevy does so with all three of the Camaro engine options, then Ford should as well!
Agreed! Four corner Brembo brakes would be nice too.
Next year I change my 2012 GT Premium. Will it be a 2018 GT Premium or an SS? I know the SS is better on the track but as I won’t be tracking my car and as I love the Coyote (and VooDoo for that matter) OHC design I’m leaning to the Mustang. Plus my Ford Dealer is better equipped / established than my Chevy Dealer. And I’m not pleased with the poor grade leather on my Silverado LTZ and no rear ac on a Top Tier crew cab? My Chevy Silverado is 2014 with 12k miles and never used as a “work” truck and my Ford Mustang is a 2012 with 8k miles and interior shows superior in the Ford!
Oh, and the leather of my Volvo XC60 and Jaguar XK Convertible are leagues better than both American vehicles – I expected this but the Silverado is really not up to par at all!
It appeared good brand new but after just two years and 12k miles looks very worn.
Yes, GM’s MagnaRide is amazing!
I just got done changing the spark plugs and coils on my ’99 F250 with its V-10. I also just got done replacing the head gasket on my granddaughter’s Escort. Ford engineering and design is HORRIBLE!! I getting rid of both of these for GM replacements. I just read where you have to take the front clip and cab off the frame if you need to pull a head on the V-10. How ridiculous is that? I keep many of my vehicles ( I have 12 total) for 250,000 miles +. My GM vehicles are NEVER this hard to work on. Ford should start designing their cars and trucks so they can be worked on easier. GM matches or exceeds their performance and allows for MUCH easier maintenance and repairs, so I know it can be done.
