If you’re eager to get your hands on a 2017 Chevrolet SS, we’d advise you to move with a quickened pace. Rumor has it the order window will be closing shortly, and General Motors will bring just 1,000 SS sedans stateside for its final model year.
But, we have our first look at the two new exterior colors coming thanks to some amateur shots from outside the Elizabeth plant. Feast your eyes on Orange Blast Metallic (which seems to be a community favorite) and Nightfall Gray Metallic, as seen on other various Chevrolet vehicles.
The two new colors will join the lineup of oddball paint hues found on the Chevrolet SS through its entire product cycle, but since Orange Blast Metallic will be a one-model-year and final-model-year thing, it could end up being a very special car to own.
As for additional updates to the 2017 Chevrolet SS, we expect them to be tepid if there are any at all. Despite our previous intel of the 2017 SS being a potential candidate for the 6.2-liter LSA supercharged V8 engine, it seems that has fallen through.
However, our source states there are a handful of LSA engines collecting dust with no planned use as of now. Maybe a limited run of LSA SS sedans could still be possible? We’d grade the rumor at a low C at this point.

The article you are linking to implies 1,000 extra SS’s for 2017, not just 1,000, does it not? So 2,000 for 2016 +1,000 = 3,000 total.
From everything I have seen there has been a production bump for final year. Extra 1000 production models, not just 1000 produced. Now 5 inbound SS models to my dealer, previous years we received 2 a year. Orange blast M/T… so excited
I’m ready to see what engine they could at least get it the old ctsv engine with 556 hp then GM needs to give it the Magnetic Ride suspension and a aggressive body kit
It has the magnetic ride suspension now. Has for three years.
I watched a video on YouTube where they were comparinga 2014 ss to a srt and they said GM needed to add it to the car
Magnetic Ride Control was added in the 2015 model year.
Since 2015 SS have had magnetic ride. 2016 and 2017 have the VF SII body kit and better looking wheels along with Bimodal exhaust. Yes, the LSA or LS9 engine in the 2017s would be outstanding. Even is theybused the new LT1 and 8 speed auto(or six speed manual) to get the power up and boost the mpgs to get rid of gas guzzler tax and not drag the CAFE down as much requiring more EV sales or buying EV credits. The Camaro 6 auto runs a 12s flat 1/4 3.9s 0-60 with the 455hp 6.2 and 8 speed stock. To be honest I am happy with our blue 2016 LS3 auto SS and would like to get a companion orange 2017 LS3(or s/c LSA/LS9)manual because my old lady is so into the SS I don’t want to end up fighting over who gets to drive it all the time.
Final year. Make it epic!
Offer the same engine as the new Camaro SS with 455HP.
Offer a more affordable option with premium grippy cloth and leather, base radio, Suspension shared from the Camaro SS for $39,900 to compete with the base RT scat pack
They do its called the holden commodore Google it keep the campaign going sv6 would be affordable but gm are low life’s and wanna cut costs and put 1000s of peopl out of work
