2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Laps The Nürburgring In A Blistering Fast 7:29.60

It’s officially official, folks: the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is really fast. The latest Camaro ZL1 finally has an official Nürburging lap time, and it broke the 7:30.00 mark with an incredible 7:29.60.

At a glance, that time not only outpaces the fifth-generation Camaro ZL1 by 11.67 seconds but the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28, too, by nearly eight seconds.

What else did the 2017 Camaro ZL1 crush with its 7:29.60 lap time? The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Ferrari 458 Italia, the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Lexus LFA all succumb to the Camaro ZL1.

What, that’s not enough evidence? Okay, fine.

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is also less than two second away from trumping the Porsche Carrera GT, which ran a 7:28 flat with Walter Röhrl behind the wheel.

The Camaro ZL1 managed the impressive time with GM’s first application of the Ford co-developed, 10-speed automatic transmission, too, suggesting another nail has been hammered into the manual gearbox’s coffin.

Can we finally call the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro a sports car? Pony car doesn’t do this vehicle justice.

  1. Very exciting, now if GM can only ramp up the 10-speed Auto and put it a wider range of Camaro and other cars in relatively short order, they will be reaping the benefits…

  4. I wonder how much market there is for a $70K Camaro these days ?? you can buy a corvette for that price

    1. not one with 650 horses and the 10 auto. Similarly equipped corvette z06s run at 90000. sure the z06 stripped without magneto shocks and with a manual gets that power at 78000, but that is still loosing many increadible features in comparison with the zl1. Now, you get a lighter package…. its all a matter of numbers, style and what you value.

    2. You mean the same market with the $70k and $90K market for the Shelby GT350 and R with ADM pricing. or the BMW M4 etc.

  5. How does that compare to Corvette?

  6. 180 MPH! I’m impressed! I note that the motor wasn’t over 6,000 very often, but that magic ten speed always kept the revs right in the power band. For a street car, GM has done some pretty amazing stuff with this Camaro.

  9. This is awesome. When chevy engineers put their minds to something, they achieve it.
If the camaro had been a nice livable car, it would be crushing M4s and S5s right now.

    1. The SS alreday crushes those cars. Whats your point?

  10. pony is sport in my mind, its just sport done right. Glorious, demanding and wonderful. The pony car is more sporty when you think of the everyday application of a sport car,,, cruising those wonderful hills and valleys with the wind in your hair. Many European styles stuggle in this area. They are more of racecars. the camaro does both perfectly 🙂

  11. Chevy, now please show up with a few Corvettes and Camaros at the 24h of the Ring and give Mercedes and Audi a good spanking. I’ll be cheering for you (and the Manta, obviously) at the Brünnchen!

  12. I still remember the stories made when Chevy crashed a GEN 6 Camaro Z/28 on the Nurburgring and it just goes to prove that you’ve got to break a few eggs when trying to make an omelet; talk about revenge being sweet as the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 outperforming the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Ferrari 458 Italia, the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Lexus LFA is serving notice to the WORLD.

    1. Note that crashed z/28 is still driving and testing as it was only body damage and the car was still fully functional.

Pretty amazing considering how hard it hit and how high in the air it got.

  14. Is very strange how that works the new automatic transmission; The pilot does not touch at any time up or down the gears, the car goes virtually alone.

I want to know more about this new GM/Ford transmission.

I even read that GM is lying in the comparison with his new transmissions vs PDK CVT and official press knows it and also lies. That said a boy owner of a ’16 Camaro SS

Anyway GM is working marvelous, now Camaro is the “New Corvette” Corvette must be moving up to definitive Supercars Olympus
