The GM Authority Take
76 percent (U.S.) and 44 percent (Canada) growth is quite impressive for a model in the last year of its lifecycle. However, something tells us that the lion’s share of the August Verano sales went to fleets, as Buick fleet sales increased by 1,825 units during the month.
2017 will be the last model year of the Verano, with Buick planning to discontinue the Verano nameplate in North American thereafter, while launching an all-new, second-generation model in China. However, a high-performance GS variant of the second-gen Verano hatchback was recently spotted undergoing testing at GM’s Milford Proving Grounds, raising hopes that the Verano nameplate will live on in North America past the first generation.

The Verano should stay with Buick but with a Lacrosse starting at $32K, where would it fit? The new Regal will likely have a lowered starting price to, so it would likely have to stay in it’s current price range.
I think there will be a ’17 hiatus and then Verano will return for ’18 as a hatchback.
I hope you’re right Jason, Opel has a few models coming down the pipeline that will fit nicely into the Buick lineup.
Yes I would let this all sort out as we have not seen all the new models.
I too suspect more Opel based models and I hope one is the OPC hatch.
The Verano sales have spiked as there are good model year clearance deal to be had . Tried to buy one but the sport touring model I was looking for was not available Also its a very competent car, matur-ish??
The sales definitely benefited from the sell off discounts , I think likely more than fleet .
I too hope they will bring an Opel version back , I very much liked the refinement of the chassis in the Verano . it has a very European feel ,classy style that will wear very well , very quiet interior that equals many high priced mid-sized cars and most of all has great reliability/ dependability , on a recent survey it was rated one of the best in America. Truly disappointing that they did not retool and build the Chinese version here in N America. I think this is a big mistake on GM’s part . They should have eliminated the lacross and kept the regal and verano. Let the large car sales be handled by the Impala.
