The GM Authority Take

The drop in LaCrosse deliveries can be explained by the production change-over for the all-new, third-generation Buick LaCrosse, resulting in low inventory levels of the now-discontinued second-gen model. The all-new LaCrosse began shipping to dealers in late August.

As such, we expect LaCrosse sales stay depressed until production and inventory levels of the all-new model have reached adequate levels to support true market demand.

  1. Hopefully this is just because people are waiting for the 2017 Lacrosse.

  2. Too bad Buick is out of the full size sedan business. Was hoping the 2017 LaCrosse would have been more Avenir size but unfortunately it’s just more of the same. Looks like I won’t be trading in my Lucerne in on another Buick.

    1. Well, in terms of size, new 3rd gen LaCrosse is smaller, but not that much smaller than Lucerne – its wheelbase is almost as long as that of Lucerne (2905 mm vs 2936 mm, 31 mm = 1.22 inch difference ) and overall length is also comparable (5017 vs 5161 mm, 144 mm = 5.67 inch difference). Just LaCrosse’s trunk is considerably smaller than that of Lucerne, unfortunately.

In terms of pretty much everything else, however, 3rd gen LaCrosse seems to be far superior to Lucerne: safety, mechanicals (e.g. Lucerne has antiquated 4 speed auto vs 8 speed auto of new LaCrosse), and so on.

And, BTW, in these previously used terms, there are no affordable “full size” sedans on the market anymore.
Just the really pricey European luxobarges remain in “full size”, such as Benz S, 7 series, A8, Jaguar XJ,
So, it’s not only Buick who abandoned AFFORDABLE “full size” sedans, but pretty much every other manufacturer as well. Just the Taurus and, to some extent, Impala is still somewhat close to that category.
And all of these more or less affordable “barges” ended up in 2011: GM’s FWD Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS, as well as all Ford’s even bigger RWD Panther platform sedans, such as Crown Victoria, Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis. All in the same year. 2011. 5 year ago. Alas.

  3. Just bought the 2017 LaCrosse and the interior room sure seems full sized to me. The back seat leg room is huge and the front seats can go too far back for me to reach the pedals (which cannot happen in most cars).

I’d suggest a test drive and bring some good tunes as this implementation of the Bose sound system seems pretty good to my ear.

So far I’ve been very impressed on all aspects of the vehicle. This is a essense model with 18″ wheels.

We are on a trip to the Smokies and on the interstates at 70+mph we have been averaging 35mpg so I’m pretty impressed. Makes me wonder what the real Coefficient of Drag is as when the EPA misses the highway number by this much it’s usually means a very good Coefficient of Drag is present.
