Less than a year ago, BMW and Volkswagen teamed up to ease range anxiety for drivers on some of the most traveled interstates in the United States. The two German automakers announced plans to create an infrastructure of 95 ChargePoint DCÂ quick-charging stations along interstate 95 on the East coast, and interstate 5 and U.S. 101 on the West coast.
According to Car and Driver, the project has been completed as of this week and it’s just in time for the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV to take advantage of.
The project was funded almost entirely by Volkswagen and BMW, and features charging station at 50-mile intervals at most. The additional chargers are obviously meant to enhance BMW and Volkswagen’s EV credentials, but as the 2017 Bolt EV prepares to launch later this year, it’s Chevrolet customers that may truly benefit from the network more. Even with 238 miles of range, calming range anxiety is an added bonus for drivers.
However, do note DC charging capability will be optional equipment when the 2017 Bolt EV goes on sale this year.
