2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV Infuses Aluminum Exterior Components

The benefits are numerous in a mixed-materials strategy: weight, fuel economy and more all typically improve. The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is no different it seems, as The Detroit News reports Chevy’s upcoming EV features a fair amount of aluminum.

Aluminum can be found in the doors, fenders, hood and liftgate, according to GM spokesperson Michelle Malcho. However, more details could not be revealed at this time on the mixed materials found in the Bolt EV. After all, it is riding on a sort of secret platform.

It’s possible Chevrolet could have a special, certified dealer network much like Cadillac does for the 2016 CT6, which also relies on intricate material processes in its assembly. As for collision repairs, more information is expected in the next month or two.
