Porsche and Corvette, Corvette and Porsche. It’s a long-running rivalry still fueled to this day by quick cars, and crazier engineering. The two meet again at the 2016 Car and Driver Lightning Lap.
This time, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS sneaks the win, but only by one-tenth. The 2017 C7 Corvette Grand Sport manages to clock a nearly identical time of 2:47.1 vs 2:47 with its 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine and a standard seven-speed manual gearbox. Not to mention, the Corvette is thousands of dollars cheaper. Just saying.
The C7 Grand Sport does manage to fend off the McLaren 570S and Acura’s reborn NSX, both of which are placed in a higher class (LL4) for the Lightning Lap, while the Corvette sits in LL3.
Have a look at the Grand Sport’s run up above, and check out Chevrolet’s two other contenders: the Camaro SS 1LE can be found here, and the Camaro V6 LT 1LE can be found here.
