2017 C7 Corvette Grand Sport In The Hunt For Performance Car Of The Year

Another model year, another round of performance tests and awards. For this occasion, it’s Road & Track and its Performance Car of the Year award.
Representing General Motors (and the United States) solely is the 2017 C7 Corvette Grand Sport. Before you become flustered as to why the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 or Camaro 1LE was not elected for the task, it’s because neither were quite ready for the test.
That’s just fine, though, because the Corvette Grand Sport should be up to the challenge. With its 6.2-liter naturally aspirated LT1 V8 engine and hand-me-down aerodynamic and cornering bliss from the C7 Corvette Z06, it’s the just right Corvette of the lineup.
Still, there’s some stiff competition for the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport. The list of contenders includes:
- Acura NSX
- Audi R8 V10 Plus
- BMW M4 GTS
- McLaren 570S
- Jaguar F-Type SVR coupe
- Lotus Evora 400
- Mercedes-AMG C63 S coupe
- Porsche 911 Turbo S coupe
- Nissan GT-R Nismo
Will the C7 Corvette Grand Sport hold off the mix of European and Japanese competitors? We’ll soon find out.

I just looked at the lighting lap results, and this car is insane. Beat ACR10, GTR Nismo, ZR1s, Mclarens and the new R8.

The Grand Sport might set the best lap time in the PCOTY testing, and the only thing close in price is the Evora. Can we get Randy Pobst in a GS with the manual trans and Z07 pack at Mazda Raceway?
How ’bout Randy Pobst comparing a manual GS against a paddle shift 8 speed GS….
Now I’d like to see that!!
Okay I noticed that on a recent Instagram post by Jason Cammisa, he was with the new Grand Sport and admiring the tires. Randy Pobst commented “It’s all mine Wednesday???”.
This can only mean one thing: a Motor Trend Ignition episode
Looks to be a very good sports car…especially at it’s price (compared to listed competition).
