If the third-generation Pontiac Trans Am was known for anything, it would be for its starring role in the classic television show, Knight Rider.
And in said television show, the 1982 Pontiac Trans Am takes the form of KITT: the Knight Industries Two Thousand. It’s an icon, instantly recognizable by nearly anyone, and an incredibly well-executed replica happened to be featured for a Regular Car Review.
In typical RCR fashion, this is not all about the specifications and driving dynamics, but about its cultural impact and how cool it is to actually get behind the steering wheel controller. And the owner has gone all out. Every screen, gauge and reader are present, and they all have procedures to make it look as if the car is scanning and reading all the time. It’s a painstakingly cool thing to see.
Check out KITT in the video right up above.

This Pontiac Firebird, exactly the GTA was mi first beloved american car.
Later the Iroc Z and Corvette.
There were more than twenty KITTs produced. Only a few had the special interior with the gadgets and lights (I saw one of them). Some were modified to have a driver hiding under the dash by the passenger side – these were the cars that seemed to be driving by themselves in the show. The mayority of the cars were just exterior modified as KITT but specially powered and driven to do the famous “turbo jumps”, and most of those were destroyed or didn’t survive after the show ended.
The guy’s review is pretty funny.
