General Motors has filed an application for a new design trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that consists of the letter C with the bottom portion having a dotted line.
The automaker’s August 1st, 2016 application is assigned serial number 87123062 and specifies that the design will be used in conjunction with “computer software for the autonomous driving of motor vehicles”. The application specifies that color is not claimed as a feature of the mark.
The GM Authority Take
Given that the design mark is a stylized C, it could end up being a logo associated with Cruise Automation, a start-up GM acquired earlier this year for a billion dollars, or GM’s much-anticipated Super Cruise autonomous driving technology.

A kinda odd trademark. I would assume this logo will also be used in the car on the button to activate the system.
Its related to Cruise Automation – the autonomous driving company GM acquired a while back. Also goes along with the “Join the Driverless Revolution” tagline they also trademarked.

Although the trademark has no distinct color, or seems just black, the Super Cruise has its indicator in the steering wheel and has three colors for its status, so I see that the trademark may have a section in green which is when the system is active and operating.
