Motor Trend Takes Delivery Of Its Long-Term 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Diesel

Motor Trend just recently took delivery of its Silver Ice Metallic 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 pickup equipped with the 2.8L four-cylinder Duramax diesel for long-term evaluation, and we’re interested in seeing what unfolds. So far everyone seems to love the new Colorado, which has won numerous awards, but how much love will it get in a year from now?
The main difference between this 2016 Colorado and the 2015 Colorado Z71 long-term vehicle Motor Trend previously had is what lies under the hood, with the last pickup utilizing the 3.6L V6. Here are the options this Colorado features:

Let’s not forget the added amenities that are included with the 2.8L diesel, including the two-speed transfer case, a tow/haul mode with an exhaust brake, and a trailer brake controller. Hopefully all of these components operate without a hitch during this long-term evaluation.
The way we see it, this Colorado Z71 diesel is the perfect fit for those who need to haul but want better fuel mileage and a more compact size than what the Silverado offers. With a Motor Trend-tested 0-60 run of 9.2 seconds and quarter-mile pass of 16.8 seconds at 79.7 mph it’s safe to say that the pickup isn’t meant for straight-line speeds. It’s a utility vehicle. Though we think a fast pickup truck this size would be loads of fun, don’t you agree?
