Holden Betting Big On New Crossovers And SUVs To Fill Its Future Portfolio

As Holden transitions from manufacturer to full importer of vehicles, there is a major bright side. The brand will be able to pick and choose vehicles it sees fit for the market, ensuring only the best make their way to Holden.

Mark Bernhard, Chairman and Managing Director of Holden, spoke with Motoring about the brand’s future, and no surprise, crossovers and SUVs will be a major part of it.

“As we move forward, we’ve got the ability to pick and choose the best products from the GM portfolio that we think suit this market,” Bernhard said. “There is sales potential in the GM portfolio to go larger than [Captiva]. We need to work through that and determine if there’s an opportunity in this market for that type of product,” he added.

Previously, we learned the 2017 GMC Acadia will be a definite for the future Holden lineup, as a focus on more premium crossovers is also a concern with the brand.

It’s likely the GMC Acadia will replace the aged Holden Captiva, while the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox also makes its way as a subcompact offering.

Holden confirmed 24 new models will arrive by 2020, thus far the brand has introduced just eight of them. One them is also a promised V8 sports car, too.

  1. That is a good looking crossover above; the new face is very clean for a GM product. The negative side for some might be that from that pics angle it looks to be a blend of a Ford front end with a BMW X5 window line.

    1. Except that’s the current Craptiva, which is a horrible car with numerous recalls due to poor design, engineering and assembly. It does look a little bit better than it did, though.
