50 years ago, an icon was born. The Chevrolet Camaro entered the world 50 years ago yesterday as a reaction to the success of the Ford Mustang. Despite being a reaction, it has carved a story all its own in the past 50 years.
Along the way, we’ve been graced with variants like the Rallye Sport, the Z/28 and Super Sport to keep the Mustang at bay. Despite the nameplate’s ending after the fourth-generation car, the vehicle remained in the hearts and minds of the enthusiast for years to come.
And there was enough love to realize the Camaro warranted a return. In 2010, the fifth-generation Camaro was born with a little help from the Zeta platform. The fifth-generation would go on to be a booming success.
So, here we are. Present during the sixth-generation of the Chevrolet Camaro as it begins to mark its place in the automotive field as a world-beating sports car, not just a straight line performance machine. All we have left to say is cheers to 50 years, Camaro. We wish it many, many more.
