Corvette Racing is looking to continue its two-race win streak as the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship heads to Virginia International Raceway for Round 10 of the 2016 season.
Drivers Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin extended their lead over Ford Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe with back-to-back wins at Lime Rock Park and Road America earlier this summer. The pairing had taken an early lead after winning the season-opening 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring, but felt the pressure from Ford after Westbrook and Briscoe took consecutive wins at Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen and Mosport.
Milner, driver of the No. 4 Corvette C7.R, is a Virginia native and currently resides in Ashburn, VA. He’s very familiar with the technical 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course and is confident Corvette Racing can extend their lead over Ford when IMSA arrives there this weekend.
“I have lot of great racing memories at VIR, and it would be great to add another with our fifth win of the season in the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette,” said Milner. “This is a track that is really fun to drive. It’s incredibly fast, it’s flowing and has a couple of really good elevation changes. A GT-only race is a nice dynamic for us, where we have a chance for an overall win. The most important thing we can do, though, is score as many points as possible.”
Practice for the Michelin GT Challenge will begin Friday, August 26th at 11:30 a.m. ET followed by qualifying at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday. The green flag is scheduled for Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Click here for a full schedule of this weekend’s IMSA festivities.
