Fresh off their 100th win at Lime Rock Park, Corvette Racing is hoping to nab their 101st as the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Challenge heads to Road America for the Continental Road Race Showcase.
Road America serves as the eighth round of the WeatherTech Championship for the GTLM class. The track is familiar ground for the Corvette camp, with the team having logged thousands of miles in testing, development and competition there over the years. They’ve also won at the 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit six times sine 2002.
Drivers of the No. 4 Corvette C7.R, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, currently lead the GTLM driver’s championship by 10 points over Ford’s Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook. No. 3 C7.R drivers Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia are third in the GTLM driver’s standings with 31 points less than Gavin and Milner.
Helping the team this weekend will be the test they conducted at Road America ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team tests at Road America ahead of Le Mans ever year, keeping the track fresh in the minds of the drivers and helping engineers to gain a good understanding of the setup needed.
“Over the years (Road America) has seemed to suit the Corvettes and we’ve had a large amount of success there and good results,” Gavin, driver of the No. 4 C7.R, said. “We test there nearly every year for Le Mans, including earlier this year. We all enjoy going there. The racing is good and very hard-fought. It’s just a good trip all-around for us.”
Qualifying for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase will kick off Saturday, August 6th at 2:50 p.m. The race will go green Sunday, August 7th at 3:05 p.m. Click here for a full weekend schedule for Road America.
