The GMC Yukon full-size SUV and Yukon XL extended-length full-size SUV receive various updates and changes for the 2017 model year, which represents the third model year of the fourth generation model.
The changes are very similar to those by the Yukon’s K2 platform mates — the 2017 Chevy Tahoe and 2017 Chevy Suburban.
Like all fourth-gen Yukon SUVs, the 2017 Yukon remains available in four models:
2017 GMC Yukon models:
- 4WD (TK15706)
- 2WD (TC15706)
2017 GMC Yukon XL models:
- 4WD (TK15906)
- 2WD (TC15906)
On to the changes: starting on the outside, the 2017 GMC Yukon family deletes four colors while gaining two new ones:
Deleted Colors:
- Bronze Alloy Metallic
- Light Steel Gray Metallic
- Dark Forest Green Metallic
- Midnight Amethyst Metallic
New Colors:
- Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic
- Mineral Metallic (Denali only)
In addition, the 22-inch aluminum wheels with chrome wheel insert is no longer available as a production wheel, being switched to an LPO accessory with a new production code, but a new 22-inch ultra-bright aluminum wheel with Midnight Silver premium paint is added exclusively to the Denali trim level. Rounding out the changes to the 2017 Yukon’s wheel lineup is a new set of accessory (LPO) 22-inch, 7-spoke Silver wheels with chrome inserts; these are available on all trims.
The exterior changes are rounded out by the addition of front active aero shutters as a standard feature on all models. The shutters are designed to improve aerodynamics by closing automatically during high-speed driving then opening when the powertrain needs air for cooling purposes. To note, the active shutters are not visible from the outside.
On the inside, the heated and cooled driver and front passenger seat cushions and seat backs are replaced with heated and vented driver and front passenger seats, which are standard on the SLT and Denali trim levels, the interior backlighting changed from Red to Blue Ice, and the Enhanced Driver Alert Package now includes Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking. And the Head-Up Display now standard on Denali.
The rest of the updates and changes to the 2017 Yukon family are related to in-vehicle technology:

Where is the 8 speed auto for the 5.3L Yukon XL?
I waited a year for this upgrade, and now it looks like I’m waiting another.
I wonder why they changed the color from Red to Blue.
Just received my 2017 GMC Yukon Denali. Very disappointed in the change from Red to Blue lighting! A noticeable difference instantly; the blue is too bright (even when dimmed)!
Any incentives for new orders on a 2017 Yukon XL ? Can I order this week and how long will it take to deliver?
Thanks
You got to talk to a local dealer.
You’ll only get whatever incentives are available at the time of delivery. And there’s really no concrete guage as to how long it will take for delivery if you’re having one made at the factory. they’ll say 6-8 weeks-ish but that’s no guarantee AT ALL. I went thru the process of buying a new 2016 Yukon XL Denali right around this time last year and I ended up travelling to Michigan to purchase mine because 1. I wanted to ensure I got the current incentives which at the time was employee pricing for military, 2. I found out the color I wanted (Midnight Amethyst Metallic) wouldn’t be available for the following production year (see article above) and 3. We had a couple summer trips planned and I wanted to make sure we had the new truck for those trips. Again – if I walk into a dealership today and order one from the factory there’s a chance they won’t even start production on it for a month or two. All depends on whether that particular dealer has a current/active “build authorization” they can use. I put that in quotes because I can’t remember if that’s the exact term for it or not but a build authorization (BA) basically dictates whether a certain dealer can have a new vehicle built. GMC has some system of giving the BAs to their dealers based on sales, demand, moon phase, etc.. So if you do in fact order a truck to be built at the factory ask the dealer your working with if they have a BA to use on you vehicle and have them show it to you and explain the process.
Knowledge is power! 😉
Anyone know if you can retrofit the DLNA technology from the 2017 into the 2016?
If you find out PLEEEEEEEEASE let me know! I see there’s a HDMI input on the rear console also. I PEALLY need that!
Hate the blue interior lights. Absolutely disappointed with this change in my new 2017 Sierra 2500HD Denali.
