As we learned over the weekend, Chevrolet will introduce a new Alaskan Edition package on the 2017 Silverado HD. The package isn’t as earth-shattering as a potential ZR2 off-road model, but it does bundle a few notable features.
Features
Assigned GM RPO code ANQ, the Alaskan Edition includes these six features:
- Snow Plow Prep Package (VYU)
- Smoked Amber roof marker lamps (U01)
- Spray-on bed liner (CGN)
- Unique decal package
- 18-inch black aluminum wheels (RT4) and an 18×8 steel spare — the same wheels as on the Midnight Edition
- Tires:
- 2500HD: LT275/65R18E 123/120Q maximum traction blackwall Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires (QF2)
- 3500HD: LT265/70R18E all-terrain blackwall tires (QGM)
Pictures of the package are not yet available; we will update this post when we get our hands on them.

Why does Chevy mess around with cosmetic packages that add nothing to performance? Do they think their customers are stupid? This customer wants changes that increase performance and capability – on and off road for the Silverado. I am not going to buy a Silverado for looks alone.
You are in the minority then because look at all 3 of the “big three”…Blackout Editions, Z71, FX4, Longhorn, Ram Rebel, etc. Majority of their buyers WANT packages and crap that are cosmetic. Heck, how many people buy a Raptor for how it is built? They buy it because it LOOKS awesome. They could care less about the long travel and Fox shocks, etc.
Perhaps I am in the minority. Whether I am in the minority or majority doesn’t mean diddly to me. I was merely stating my perspective from whence I buy a truck. Of course I look at appearance. However, the ultimate decision for me is based on performance. And for your information, the people I know that have a Raptor, bought it for its off road ability at high speeds. My bottom line is that all the cosmetic packages in the world do not eclipse performance packages that give you power, handling and suspension travel. What other people want or desire is irrelevant to me. So what is your point?
I am definitely waiting to order a 2017 instead of a settling for the 2016. The reason being, MORE POWER! I drove a 16 and loved it. Put one of my Stealth Modules on it and the mileage was up to 24. Can’t wait to design one for the 2017 when it comes out. You can check out the results on my instagram @stealthperformanceproducts
When I think of a Alaska Edition I think of cold temperatures and snow. I would want heated wiper blades, Better defroster than all the Silverado’s I have owned have owned (3) Heated washer solvent, Bigger battery, Block heater, Remote start, Tires with a good tread and a rubber compound made for cold weather traction. An appearance package does nothing to make the vehicle work better
