It’s a big bundle of 2017 Chevrolet Camaro news today, folks. We have official pricing for the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 as well as official pricing for the 2017 Chevy Camaro 1LE, as well as full performance specs for the ZL1. And now, we have the official specifications for the much-anticipated 2017 Camaro 1LE.
Camaro V6 1LE Performance:
- 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds
- 0.97 g max cornering
- 60-0 mph braking in 112 feet (34 meters)
Camaro V8 SS 1LE Performance:
- 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds
- 1.02 g max cornering
- 60-0 mph braking in 107 feet (32 meters)
- 230-pound (104 kilogram) weight reduction over fifth-generation SS 1LE
By contrast, the Ford Shelby GT350 takes 4.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. Though the difference is not substantial, it is worth noting that the 1LE is a package add on, which makes the feat even more incredible.
In February, chief Camaro engineer, Al Oppenheiser, stated that the SS 1LE package would more than likely outperform the Ford Shelby GT350, and these performance stats seem to support that claim.
What’s more, the V6 1LE is no slouch either, pull nearly 1 g in cornering and clipping off 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds.
We’re looking forward to sampling both track packs when the time comes.

I’m very interested in that color option (The green).
Its not a factory color, but Chevy isn’t a company that shows off cars in non-factory configurations.
You guys have access to the ordering guides… Is that green an option on the 1LE? Both SS and V6?
It is krypton Green and it should see production.
The new Camaro will be offered in special colors and limited time packages like they have been in the past. This is one of them.
Thanks a lot!
Great package but unfortunately all Camaros have horrible visibility from all angles and the chopped roof is a deal breaker for anybody with any height. In this regard, the Mustang is a far superior road car from a driver’s standpoint. The sales numbers don’t lie.
Camaro’s chassis is way more advanced than Mustangs as proved when MT tested a turbo 4 cyl Camaro vs a Mustang Ecoboost with the optional Track Pack: The bottom line was that when the Camaro got swapped for performance tires, like the Mustang had, it beat the Mustang around the track, not to mention in a straight line (no optional performance pack needed for the Camaro). Camaro lost weight and Mustang gained weight compared with their predecessors. The 2017 SS 1LE will be over $10,000 cheaper than a similar (apples to apples), if underperforming, 2017 Mustang GT350 (which will have the Track Pack as standard due to the appearance of the new 1LE). Then again, like you say, numbers don’t lie
The actual competitor to the GT 350 will be the upcoming Z-28. The 1LE has decent performance due to being smaller and lighter but it isn’t a direct competitor.
I’m not a fan of either but get your facts straight.
No the gt350r is what your talking about. The 1le is direct competition to the gt350
Maybe in your mind but you obviously have no understanding of marketing.
The 1LE is simply a package for the SS in direct competition with the GT. Just because the 1LE achieves some number similar to the 350 doesn’t make it a direct competitor.
350 and 350R compete with the Z28 and obviously the ZL1 with the GT500.
Bob, why do you think Ford all of a sudden made the Track Pack standard in the GT350? Get your facts straight.
Why don’t you tell me?

“Chevrolet also delivered a swift kick to the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 by officially pricing the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE.”
“So, for the V8-powered SS, the 2017 Camaro 1LE SS will be available as a $6,500 package atop the 2017 Camaro 1SS trim. By 2017 Camaro 1SS pricing, that means a price tag of $37,990 for the 1SS plus the $6,500 for the 1LE SS package, coming out to $44,490. By comparison, the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 rings it at a substantially higher $55,595 before heading to the options sheet.”
YES THEY ARE BEING COMPARED TO EACH OTHER, DEAL WITH IT…
OUTPERFORM

“During our time to chat with Al Oppenheiser, chief Camaro engineer, we got right down to business and asked what everyone wants to know: will the 2017 Camaro SS 1LE outperform the Shelby GT350?
“That’s obviously our intent. I have the answer, but I’ll let the rest of you decide how we did. Our goal is to up the game with our competitor, just like they upped the game with the GT350. Everyone had to expect we would punch back. I will tell you this car is three seconds faster than the previous 1LE. Your readers can go out and make their own conclusions,” Oppenheiser stated in utmost confidence.
It surely sounds like the GT350 is going to have something more to worry about when the 1LE hits the streets later this year, especially knowing the Camaro team benchmarked the hopped up Mustang.”
EVEN THE FORD FANBOYS ADMIT IT TOO:
“Chevrolet is trying to undermine the success of the track-oriented Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang, announcing today that the new 1LE performance package for the V8-powered Camaro SS costs just $6,500. Tacked onto the (2016) SS model’s base MSRP, the car could come out to a total of just $44,400…..This significantly undercuts the price of the Shelby GT350 Mustang, which bases at $55,595 before destination.
Even while being at a deficit with regard to power, the 2017 Chevrolet SS 1LE could out-pace the Shelby GT350 Mustang on the track by virtue of its (presumably) lower curb weight. Of course, if it doesn’t, it still represents an arguably superior value proposition.”

MY COMMENT PROVEN:
MT previously clocked a 1:37.82 with the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28, but Lieberman alluded to the 2017 1LE’s time matching, or shaving seconds off the Z/28’s. We’ve iterated it before, but that’s an incredible feat after digesting the 1LE is really only an SS on steroids.
Al Oppenheiser, lead Camaro engineer, has also stated the 1LE will more than likely wipe the track with the Shelby GT350. Ford countered by making the GT350’s track pack standard equipment.

Odd. I’m 6’9″ and found the camaro to be very comfortable.
I also found the ride superior in the Camaro.
And by your argument that “sales numbers don’t lie”, The Toyota Camry is by far the best performing car available, eating the camaro and mustang for dinner followed by the Civic. Ferrari’s and lambos are poor performers. Because “Numbers don’t lie”.
The mustang is a LOT cheaper than the camaro. I have wondered if camaro is worth the several thousand dollar price premium over the Mustang, and both have their + and – which can be debated for hours.
Only an idiot would compare a Camry, Civic and Ferrari/Lambo.
You missed my point. Every review of the Camaro points out the deficiencies in outward visibility which gives it a claustrophobic feeling. Drivers have enough distractions without designing cars where drivers are unaware of their surroundings. Apples to apples both the Camaro and Mustang are very closely priced to each other, so your information must date back to decades past to the fox body. And if you’re 6’9″ and fit comfortably in a Camaro, you must have legs that make you eligible to join the local circus. I’m 6’3″ and can’t even sit upright with my head pressing against the roof with the seat all the way back.
Even with a complete re-design, the Camaro sales are equal to the archaic Challenger and nearly half of Mustang sales. The chassis and performance is superior on the Camaro but it’s a difficult car to live with in a busy urban environment. Sales don’t lie when you compare vehicles in the same market segment.

Agree on the height issue. No way that a 6’9″ person fits comfortably in a Camaro. The redesign couldn’t have added any internal capacity since they cut weight out of the vehicle, and I’m sure it was more than just changing construction materials. Chevrolet didn’t really make any major cosmetic changes that would help spark interest in a truly redesigned car. Yes, it will have impressive numbers and performance, but they simply used their shared platform to piece together a car with subtle design alterations. Mustang, at least with the GT350, made some major changes (the S550 is considerably different than the outgoing/gone S197 platform), especially when considering the 5.2 liter engine. Both Ford and GM will benefit from the 10-speed transmission (I’m sure Ford will start using it within the next year or two). I will hold judgment on chassis and performance since the 350R outperformed the outgoing Z/28, which, by most accounts, was America’s track car.
I own one and if you can’t see out of it you have problems with your eyes. Yes you can’t see as well out of it as you can in the mustang but I want the better quality and faster car. Go ahead make the decision to not get a car that isn’t quite as easy to see out of to get something slower and that probably will not run after the first year. To be honest Camaro’s need men to drive them not little girls that bitch about dumb shit
Hey tough boy, it’s not dumb shit if you’re head is pushing against the roof and you can’t see red lights at intersections. If you’re small enough that it doesn’t bother you, than good for you.
Both cars have pluses and minuses, the new Camaro platform is a huge step forward but it isn’t for everybody.
I have owned both and visibility is not the same.
