This 1983 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck runs just under 10 seconds at the quarter-mile, and it’s not using an LS motor.
The 80 mm Borg Warner turbocharger is fitted to a carbureted 383 cu-in. small block V8 running on E85 fuel. “Corn,” as the kids call it. The owner estimates around 850hp to the wheels, and claims a fastest time of 9.76 seconds at about 142 mph. We have no reason to doubt him based off of what we’ve seen in this video, and are impressed to say the least. It’s always a treat to see something as utilitarian as a work truck achieve quarter mile times than, say a Corvette Z06.
It looks like the driver is having some sort of hiccup right before the green, and this gives him trouble as he tries to launch the truck. To us it looks like the trans brake is giving a little as he tries to build boost. Despite whatever this may be, the C10 still puts up some nice numbers – the fastest in this video being a 10.16 at 139.99 mph.
Unfortunately it loses its bout to the turbocharged Monte Carlo, but it’s able to stick it to the Ford, of course.
