Opel has named a new manager for its historic Kaiserslautern plant. Peter Winternheimer has been tapped as new plant manager for the facility, as Opel celebrates 50 years of manufacturing in the area.
Winternheimer will take over the reins at the engine and component plant in western Palatinate on August 1, 2016.
“Kaiserslautern is getting an experienced quality and manufacturing expert in Peter Winternheimer who knows the plant like the back of his hand,” said Philip Kienle, Vice President Manufacturing.
Peter Winternheimer was production manager and acting plant manager of the Kaiserslautern plant before accepting his current role as Director Manufacturing Engineering, Strategy and Planning  in Rüsselsheim where he was responsible for the European component strategy.
Winternheimer will succeed Manfred Gellrich, who decided to leave the company.
“I would like to thank Manfred Gellrich for the contribution he made for Opel/Vauxhall over more than 20 years and wish him all the best for his future,” added Kienle.
