General Motors has announced that Kaku Wakamatsu has been appointed to the position of President and CEO of GM Japan. The appointment of the 50 year-old executive will be effective on August 1th, 2016.
Wakamatsu was born in the Kanagawa prefecture. He graduated from Keio University Faculty of Law, Department of Political Science and acquired an MBA from the UK University of Leicester.
In 1989, Wakamatsu joined the GM Division at Yanase Corporation — a Japanese dealer group. In 2000, he joined General Motors in the role of International Product Manager at GM International Product Center and in 2009 became the Product & Portfolio Planning Director at GMIO. Most recently, in September 2014, he became the General Director of distribution at GM’s Southeast Asia operations.
