With news of China receiving the North American specification Chevrolet Cruze, the brand will be shuffling its portfolio.
Car News China reports the Chevrolet Cavalier will be introduced as a previous-generation Chevrolet Cruze, while the new Cruze offers a more premium package. The Cavalier will wear updated styling, but receive the same engine as the current Cruze Classic sold in China, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. A manual transmission is said to be the only option.
The report states a September 2 introduction date, and a very inexpensive price point. Chinese consumers will be able to purchase the Chevrolet Cavalier for just 80,000 Yuan, or nearly $12,000 USD.

It is great to see the Cavalier name back. Too bad not in North America. I have a 2014 Cruze and its a great car. With the new cruze Korean looking styling and lack of CD I won’ t be buying a new one. But my car with Cavalier badging in a second I would buy. 1st gen 82-94 might be the best , most popular and well made GM ever.
Cavalier reminds me of poor quality 80’s/90’s Chevy badged GM cars. Like you though, I don’t care for the new Cruze look either. It’s not bad but the former model literally looked like a little BMW from a distance. If they would have modernized the front end and maybe added a little more presence to it, the car would have continued to be a hit. The new Cruze while nice, just doesn’t do it for me. It does look Korean.
And then you have Buick, clearly based on German designs via Opel. And they’re growing here in America because people like that styling. I genuinely wish Chevrolet’s looked more like Buick’s. Because Buick’s have the sporty yet classy designs like old 50’s and 60’s Chevrolet’s had. Nearly European in look.. It’s also why Ford is so successful now, their cars and trucks now carry that look as well. I’m just not a Buick or Ford man.. It’s hard though to say I’m a Chevrolet man either save for the Corvette and possibly Colorado. Their designs just aren’t hit’s anymore. I suppose I like the rear 3/4’s of the new Malibu. Just not the front end. I really hope the new GM designer revamps Chevrolet designs entirely before it’s too late. Cadillac needs help as well IMO.
The 2004 Cavalier corrected a lot of the component and engine problems , unfortunately it was the last year for the Cavalier . The 2.2 L engine was a gem that year and the coupe and sedan was roomy inside with excellent greenhouse that opened up the interior . The Cavalier sold over a million vehicles and dropping it , basically gave away this market segment to the Koreans and Japanese . There are still a lot of these vehicles on our roads and the bodies have stood up well , considering the excess salt on our winter roads . Changing the name to Cobalt was totally inane and what fools were involved with this decision ?…. hopefully are working with Chrysler .
