The GM Authority Take

A 46 percent sales growth is quite impressive for the Impala, which ceased being a vehicle sold mostly to fleets with the introduction of the current, tenth-generation model. What’s likely responsible for the jump is the 20 percent cash back discount that Chevy offered on most of its models in June. In addition, it is highly unlikely that the sales growth was the result of higher deliveries to daily rental fleets, which GM is in the process of substantially reducing in North America.

For the month of July, incentives on the Impala are as follows:

2016 Chevrolet Impala incentives

  • Model: 2016 Chevrolet Impala 2WD LT Preferred Equipment Group
  • $1,500 cash allowance/consumer cash
  • 0 percent APR financial for 60 months
  • Ultra-low mileage lease for $269 per month for 39 months, with $3,599 due at signing ($3,099 for current lessees of GM vehicles). $0.25 per mile charge for vehicles over 32,500 miles use allotment.

2017 Chevrolet Impala incentives

  • Model: 2017 Chevrolet Impala 2WD LT Preferred Equipment Group
  • 1.9 percent APR financial for 60 months
  • Ultra-low mileage lease for $299 per month for 39 months, with $3,339 due at signing ($2,839 for current lessees of GM vehicles). $0.25 per mile charge for vehicles over 32,500 miles use allotment.

  1. Excellent vehicle that will be left to whither on the vine! Soldiers on with ancient 6 speed and very few other changes.

Almost universally looked upon all reviews as being at the head of its class, including one of the highest rated sedans by CR and its readers!

  2. It’s because they had 20% off MSRP rebate in June
Then dealer discount on top of that.

    1. That 20% discount didn’t apply to that many available models. It was limited to only a handful of units. That’s the way those discounts usually work.

      1. It was on ALL in stock Impala and a few other models for first half of the month.
It was a crazy tactic, but it obviously worked well for them.
But I will agree, usually rebates such as that one are on select units only

        1. Hmmm. That’s not what I saw: only the high-end trim levels had the discount. I had someone looking specifically at an Impala LS and the 20% didn’t apply to it.

          1. You may be right on not applying on LS models but when you can get a LT for less than normal price of LS…

            1. Alex is right.

20% off was offered only on LTZ models on Traverse, Impala, Equinox and Trax with exception of Silverado1500 Crew Cab LT ALL STAR 4WD.

              1. The examples on the website were for LTZ models, as that was the greatest dollar amount off. I looked into both the Sonic and Impala in LT trims, and the 20% off most assuredly applied, BUT this was the Independence day sale, which was actually in July. They have gone back to offering the discount, just to the oldest models in stock, which was the way it worked in June if I remember correctly.

  3. I Personally cannot wait for the impala ss to replace the SS sedan.

    1. That’s not going to happen… at least that we know of.

  4. The 2016 Chevrolet Impala offers a lot of bang for the buck as it starts at $27K while topping out at $37K and in this era where most decent sedans have a starting price of over $30K, the surprising thing with the Impala is it’s engines are naturally aspirated; one would almost expect Chevy to do what it has done in other models by going with a LWC used by the Buick Cascada with 200 hp from it’s 1.6L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo for the base engine and then the 275 hp LTG 2.0L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo as the top end engine.

  5. Too bad it’s not offered in AWD. I was interested in buying one until I saw it was only avail. in FWD b/c I’m in western NY. Current car is FWD and I’m looking to change that soon.

    1. It’s dropping every year since 2014 specifically because the car is no longer a fleet queen, which the old model absolutely was. Different positioning, much higher ATPs, and much higher profit margins on the current model over the old one.

  7. What will be interesting is to see how they deal with this car in the future.

Odds are it will be based on the Lacrosse but who knows Mark Ruess may bring it to the Omega or Alpha.

With the increase in size of the Malibu it would be nice to see it on a RWD AWD.

Well we cab wish can’t we LOL!

    1. And please add the impala ss as well./

  8. It’s true that you do get alot for a reasonable price . And GM got serious about this car after what was really nothing but a rental car queen . I don’t see any advertising for the Impala , which is a shame because it is a good looking car.
It may help if it was offered with AWD , many other companies are switching to this for their large sedans ( Hyundai for one ) .

  9. Anyone know the breakdown of OLD Impala vs the NEW Impala ?

    1. The break-down for June 2016, or in general?

If you’re talking about June, then I would be very surprised to see any last-gen Impalas as part of the sales figures. If you’re asking generally, then it’s very difficult to get that kind of information, as the automakers don’t share it. What we do have is cumulative numbers by month and year, right here:
