The GMÂ Authority Take
The figures are quite impressive, especially considering that the Colorado is still missing highly-anticipated features, such as range-topping LTZ and High Country trim levels, sunroof, and LED/high intensity headlamps, to name a few. That’s why, going forward, we eagerly await the changes and updates for the 2017 Chevy Colorado, which should make the already-competitive Colorado even more so.
Comments
I truly believe production restrains are the only thing keeping this truck from becoming a segment best seller. Between it and the Canyon GM sold 12,447 units vs. 15,809 for Tacoma. And it seems the gap is getting smaller and smaller each month.
Still want either the 4.3L or (preferably) a V8 option as well as an 8 or 10 speed!
Waiting, waiting, as long as I can!!!
Would suggest you wait! Had 3.6 in 2015 and I was not impressed at all!
The 3.6 would behave similar to the 4.3 for daily driving. And there is nothing to wait for, it isn’t getting a V8. A turbo 4 is more likely.
Disagree with you. 4.3 and V-8 may not happen but 8 speed would be a requirement for me to even consider. The current 3.6 with the six speed tuned for mileage is a dog! One of the reasons I got rid of my 2015 Colorado LT.
@Martin,
Yes, my “waiting” started with the 8spd, I believe they originally said the ZR2 would have it. So I figured it wouldn’t be long before it made it’s way across the lineup!
I’m in an ’08 Colorado which was supposed to get the V8, but it was pushed back to ’09 and my ’00 SS Camaro was having signs of a blown head gasket, so I couldn’t wait another year!
Sorry Andrew:
Totally disagree with you on that one, the LFX is a (rev-happy) passenger car engine, the LV3 is a torque (muscle car/truck) engine, with the same genes as the LT1/LT4, and the L86.
http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/gm-engines/lv3/
Far superior engine architecture for a truck with the heavier weight of trucks, not to mention the size and again, weight of the tires that trucks uses!
I’ll take a CCSB-ZR2 with an (a) LT7 {Raptor Killer} [I think the LT7 is coming], (b) L86 or (c) LT1, no boost needed (or wanted) with those (torque motors).
But we must wake from our dreams, so I’d be stoked to just to have the LV3 as an option in the twins!
Where do I sign, on the dream line?
Like I said, in daily driving, where you’re only using 40% of the engine’s capabilities (shifts come around 3000-3500rpm), you won’t notice much difference. Most full size truck owners only use it as a daily driver, an even high percentage of midsize truck owners use it for that purpose.
The 3.6 is a good engine for it and better than the rest of the competition.
The 4.3 won’t happen. A V8 won’t happen.
Not every one drives with a lazy (for lack of a better term) foot. Torque, the kind I was talking about starts in the bottom end. 3500 RPM is midrange.
Push button start and Homelink. I mean really GM?
Well there will be no 4.3 so I would not wait for it. Now there is a good chance at more power in the 3.6 like in the Camaro but only at a price I hate to say. They will make it a option at a higher cost.
There will soon be a ZR2 as it was seen testing more in the open recently too. I just worry on the price.
You will see more expansion of this vehicle as there will be some changes coming in the future to all truck companies. I really see this truck taking the place of the half ton that will never make the CAFE numbers by 2025.
The companies will treat this as the new Half ton and the 3/4 ton that has more CAFE room will fill the spot on the low end full size. I expect a heavy half where it will be a light full size but it will be rated at 3/4 ton to get the CAFE break.
Ford already is nearing bringing back the Ranger too as their trucks will still fall short even with the new V6 and aluminum in MPG.
Yes the government has cut the CAFE for 2025 but they only rolled it back to 50 MPG.
The real issue is the added penalties on the companies will be costly.

It will be interesting to see what they do to deal with this.
I would like to buy one of these but till there is a power sun roof option. I will not buy one.
I also do not want it package related to only Denali or the like. I am fine with a SLT as I do not need the extra chome unless it comes with a bigger engine.
Awesome!!! We need to buy American made vehicles in America so that American children get feed. (well mostly made in America) . I have only owned GM vehicles my entire life and my current 2 vehicles are 17 years old (Pontiac Montana) and 7 years old (GMC Canyon). The GMC Canyon is the Colorado’s twin. Awesome vehicle. My previous vehicle (GMC Jimmy) I had 18 years. Before that, a Pontiac Lemans which I totaled after 15 years. Please buy American!
I have a 2015 GMC Canyon and love the truck with one exception: the shift points in the 6-speed trans are terrible, especially when it’s running in 6th gear around 40 mph and I need a quick down shift for passing another vehicle. It will hesitate as if searching for that down shift and when it finally finds it, the rpm jumps up so high that it feels/sounds like it went from 6th gear to 2 gear. Extremely irritating and at times even dangerous. Had it back to the dealer twice and after a test drive then say there isn’t a problem. That’s just the way it shifts. Anyone other owners of Canyons or Colorados have this experience? Thanks, Ron…
