The Corvette Daytona Prototypes and the rest of the Prototype field weren’t at the small 1.5-mile Lime Rock Park circuit last Sunday, but they will take to the track next weekend as all classes return to create a 42-strong field for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America.
Road America will serve as the ninth round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Champinship. All four IMSA classes, Prototype, GT Le Mans, Prototype Challenge and GT Daytona, will race at the storied Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin track this Sunday – and that includes Corvette Racing.
Fresh off earning the Corvette Racing its 100th team victory, Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin will be hoping to defend their 10-point lead in the driver’s standings over No. 67 Ford GT drivers Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook. Ford will try and stand in their way, but Porsche may arise as another strong competitor after Nick Tandy and Patrick Pilet scored the GTLM win at Road America in 2015.
In Prototype, Corvette DPs occupy the top four positions in the championship. Action Express Racing’s Joao Barbosa and Fittipali are first, carrying a four point lead over teammates Dane Cameron and Eric Curran. Wayne Taylor Racing’s Ricky and Jordan Taylor are third, followed by the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing Corvette DP of Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel in fourth.
Practice for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase begins at 1:40 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 5, followed by qualifying on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. ET. The race will go green on Sunday, August 7th at 3:05 p.m. ET.
