The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is bonkers. Outright bonkers. That’s a pretty great way to sum it up. The Alpha platform provides excellent structure, and the 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V8 has the guts to have it scream like a bat out of hell all the time.
The Lexus GS-F on the other hand is a very different machine. It’s naturally aspirated, 5.0-liter V8 puts out much less power, but Motor Trend and our favorite Head 2 Head pair decided to pit the two against each other. Why? The starting prices are very similar, and both are midsize sedans with a little special something.
We won’t spoil the outcome, but we will say it was a surprising close call. What the Lexus lacks in power, it makes up for in a superb driving chassis, and a more natural steering feel. Click play right up above.

It would have made more sense to compare the GS-F to the CTS Vsport.
They already did and the CTS V-Sport still won over it and Audi S7.

The S6 and S7 are closer to the CTS-V in terms of performance than the GS-F, with the RS6 and RS7 definitely being in CTS-V territory in performance.
I thought the review of both of the cars was excellent especially the senior citizen cut-up remarks on the infotainment system while they were in the Lexus. LOL!
Was a bit surprise when they said that Lexus’s steering and ride quality was better than the Cadillac’s for every day street driving. Too each their own I suppose. It is very hard to knock Lexus for overall performance but I prefer the CTS-V over it any day of the week.
Yeah, I’m also surprised about the ride quality preference of the hosts. It is quite a bit “softer” than the CTS-V, which makes it more “livable” on the daily — though I would have no problem “enduring” the firmness of the CTS-V every day. But for those who want to have a very “livable” daily driver, there is always the CTS V-Sport…
it would be cool if the CTS and GS-F are sleek utility vehicles or wagons instead of sedans….I think sedans are getting a little played out.
I don’t see how either of these cars are dull and boring in any way.
And then it’s funny how lots of youtubers on youtube says they prefer GSF because of reliability and resale lol. Like if you’re going with that, you might as well just buy a Camry XSE with V6 lol. You don’t buy these cars for reliability and resale. You buy them for performance.
Sadly myths preconception too often trump the truth.
And the fact that GSF cannot even do a burnout LOL
Checking Car and Driver’s webpage for their performance test results of the 2016 Cadillac CTS Vsport and the 2016 Lexus GS-F, both cars accelerate to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and did the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds with the only difference being the price with the 2016 Cadillac CTS Vsport is $60K while the 2016 Lexus GS-F at over $80K meaning most people would still declare Cadillac’s CTS the winner.
the 1990 LS 400 looks better than the new GS-F….the GS-F look like a jellybean compared to the old lexes…. and I wouldn’t spent $60-80K for a sedan.
Personally, I think the Lexus RC/RC F coupe is the one Lexus worth looking at other then the LS sedan. I would be tempted to choose the RC/RC F over the ATS/ATS-V coupe. On the other hand, the CTS is a lot better than the GS sedan. Go figure.
