Team Chevy’s Joao Barbosa Tops Practice 1 At Belle Isle

Action Express Racing’s Joao Barbosa was quickest in Practice 1 ahead of the IMSA Chevrolet Sportscar Classic at Belle Isle, posting a best lap of 1:24.239 in his No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP.

Barbosa’s AXR teammate Dane Cameron was second-fastest in the session with a lap of 1:24.962, while Jordan Taylor was third in his Konica Minolta Corvette DP with a best time of 1:25.131. The Honda Ligier JS P2 of Ozz Negri and Michael Shank Racing was the fourth fastest car on track Friday after lapping the 13-turn Belle Isle GP circuit in 1:25.249. The Honda-Ligier is fresh off a win in Monterey and may be one to watch this weekend – despite Chevy’s usual dominance at their home circuit.

According to Sportscar365, Friday’s first practice session was red flagged after the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 of Christina Nielsen made contact with the wall. A second red was brought out for debris later in the session, with a third coming out after the the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and No. 70 Mazda Prototype stopped on track.
