The No. 50 Corvette C7.R of Larbre Competition finished eighth in GTE Am class at the 84th 24 Hours of Le Mans, while the No. 57 Corvette C7.R of Taiwan’s Team AAI was ninth in class.
Ferrari team Scuderia Corsa took the GTE Am in their No. 62 Ferrari 458, which was driven by Bill Sweedler, Townsend Bell and Jeff Segal. In second was the No. 83 AF Corse 458 of Emmanuel Collard, François Perrodo and Rui Aguas, while the No. 88 Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR of David Heinemeier Hansson, Patrick Long and Khaled Al Qubaisi rounded out the podium.
Larbre Competition’s chances at posting a strong result went down the drain following an unfortunate shunt at the hands of driver Yutaka Yamagishi. The Japanese driver went off at the Porsche Curves and hit the crash barrier, damaging the rear of the car and forcing the team to perform emergency repairs.
40 minutes later, the No. 50 Corvette had returned to the track, however the team’s shot at victory was now gone. The Corvette C7.R of Team AAI, driven by Johnny O’Connell, Oliver Bryant and Mark Patterson, was also the victim of a minor accident and was thus put out of winning contention early.
FIA World Endurance Championship teams will head to Germany next for the 6 Hours of Nurburgring on July 24th.
