Corvette Racing And Its Le Mans Lunchtime Train Horn: Video

Corvette Racing makes noise at Le Mans in more ways than one. Apart from the thunderous, unmistakably American exhaust note emitted from their Corvettes, the team garners attention in France for its bright yellow paint scheme and tendency to win the world famous endurance event.

Another way Corvette Racing lets their presence be known? A gigantic train horn. As Road & Track reports, the team once had an engineer that brought a train horn along one year and would blow it at 11:45 p.m. each day. The employee has since parted ways with Pratt & Miller, but they’ve continued the tradition, bringing a horn of their own along every year since.

Automobile Club de L’ouest posted a video of Corvette Racing sounding their horn off at Le Mans today, so be sure to check it out below.

  1. Really Sam? This is nonsense since GM Authority is not talking about how Ford GT’s have 4 of the top 5 positions for this farce called Le Mans. Also, it’s imperative that you also report on how those positions have now been adjusted based on the BOP as of today. In all fairness, the previous articles of how P&M have called out the Ford’s sandbagging is TRUE and needs to be explored, IMHO…..

  2. Like so many others you really need to get a better understanding on what is really going on in France.

As I stated the Corvette guys are playing it cool as this is not their first rodeo here.

If you will note that the organizers have now restricted the Ford turbo intakes and added weight. Corvette got to go back on the intake settings. Several teams got fuel capacity changes.

At this point the teams should all be pretty much in the hunt for the win as they are all close in speed. The real key is being there at the end and no one but Corvette has a better record in this class for that in the last so many years.

To be honest I think you will find Corvette has not showed it all yet. They were holding back earlier and know that being on pole in class is not as important as being on pole at the end of the race.

Right now I would watch the Ferrari’s as they have been fast and reliable. The 911’s have not always been fast but they are so durable and trouble free. Ford has yet to finish a 24hr race with no issues that is why they have 4 cars.

Corvette will be competitive on speed and durability and only threatened by things out of their control like getting hit by another car or simple things like a odd part or tire failure.

There is no conspiracy here just a tough system that tried to tame a tougher issue of trying to level the playing field so all MFG’s keep coming back and Fans tuning in.

Sorry to break the news but Racing is the entertainment business and everyone wants their team to have a shot or they do not come. Technology today prevents run what ever you brung as most MFG can not afford $100 Million plus racing budgets.

While I hate this too the series has made a good effort to continue to fix the issues as they come up. Ford made the mistake of sandbagging too much and when they opened the cars up they made it too clear what they did. Watch the Corvette guys as they will be fine. Ferrari will be tough but I think they can out last them.

But some of you really need to get a grip and understand the reality of racing today. Race series die with out competition and with out cost controls and if not for this imperfect system even a race like this would die.
