Yesterday, GMC surprised us with a teaser of what’s to come with a photo of an updated 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. The major news here is the mail-slot hood scoop that hints at some significant powertrain improvements for the Sierra HD, and likely the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD, as well.
Currently, there are more questions than there are answers, and it all deserves conversation. While we don’t have much info on the 2017 GMC Sierra HD powertrain, we also don’t have huge expectations that this teaser will lead to an entirely new powertrain. Instead, we believe it to be an updated version of the current 6.6L LML Duramax engine with bumps in horsepower and torque, thanks to expected cooling improvements. However, we have eaten our words before. From here, we invite you to opine in the comments, and participate in our poll below.

Just trying to help a brother out.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see some type of electrification going on – from a 48v assist turbo all the way up to full hybrid.
Do any HD diesels have 48v turbos yet?
It’s an 8.3 liter V10. with 505 Horsepresure. 1010 ft/lbs of torque!
I wrote a GMC engineer/designer a couple years ago about incorporating an forward opening scoop simular to one I saw on late ’50s HD, to a current model. Doubt they gave any attention to me. But that scoop has my attention.
Its a 7.0 Liter Iron, direct injected 450 HP / 555 ft/lbs of torque gas V8 with an Allison Transmission. Ring – Ring – Ring = That’s my alarm clock – I was dreaming.
Would like to see the generation 5 version of the 6.2L gas motor with 8 speed auto and smart calibration so as not to hunt when pulling.
Need 450+ or torque.
current diesels are too complicated and expensive back end cleanup for me.
Its a L5P Duramax Diesel. Now how about some information about it. LML – L5P changes and HP and Torque specs ?
Finally, 445 HP and 910 Ft Lbs of torque. I thought I was going to have to buy one and put it on a dyno to find out.
